The Kent Students’ Production “Goodbye for Now” Won the Prize in the Niagara Falls Region

The drama “Goodbye for Now”, directed by Miss K and performed by Kent School students, won seven prizes and four trophies in the Niagara Region of the National Theatre School of Canada-High School Drama Festival and has advanced to the southern Ontario region competition which will be held in Hamilton at the end of April.

Despite being the only team with non-native English speakers, Kent students emerged in the six competing schools for their high-quality original script and excellent performance. Freya, the heroine, recalled the rehearsal details:

Everyone can see Miss K’s dedication. She is not only competent, but also serious, responsible, and patient. She would bring doughnuts to us during every weekend practice and meticulously prepare everyone’s scripts. We made great strides thanks to her encouragement and praise. Her targeted and individualized pep talks gave us the most confidence before the big show. She also made a point of telling us where she was in the audience, so even if we couldn’t identify the people in the row during the performance, we knew she was always there.

Not to mention our cast, whom all presented excellent performances. Sylvia was afraid she wouldn’t remember her lines and would make mistakes on stage. But in fact, she performed very well without forgetting a single word. Tracy was the only one who didn’t have to memorize her lines, but she was the first to do so. “It’s better to memorize them just in case,” she said. Alida and Victoria played the two sisters of the male lead, and they received warm responses due to their good collaboration. Despite having a lot of lines under pressure and having to change clothes quickly in a short time, the male lead Owen delivered an excellent performance.

Thanks to all of the teachers and students who encouraged and supported us. All of the members of the drama group are the best, and these honors and trophies are the results of our collaborative efforts. I hope we can keep up the good work and do well in the April advancement competition in Hamilton!
