Kent’s Students Preparation for Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)- Academic Rigor and Relaxation After The Test

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)

The Ontario Ministry of Education has resumed the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) this year, which has also been made available online for the first time. Principal Doug personally explained the literacy test arrangement in a student assembly in February. Meanwhile, teacher Mao from the administration office installed the software for all students and supervisors, debugged the equipment, and trained all supervisors. According to relevant research, simply familiarizing students with the test questions and process can improve their performance by 5%. As a result, Principal Doug scheduled a mock exam a week ahead of time, which familiarized teachers and students with the exam process and allowed them to trial and error. Students and teachers summarized the difficulties they encountered during the mock exam and then made adjustments for the official exam.

Principal Doug’s careful planning made the preparation days truly a mix of work and play. Finally, the official test on March 9 went off without a hitch, and no students or teachers were affected by equipment failure.

Art Performance

The principal specifically reminded teachers to pay more attention to students’ mindsets during exam preparation and to help ease their test anxiety. He also organized arts performances after the two mock exams to help the students relax. Teachers and students collaborated on quizzes and games to alleviate the stress of the exams.

Principal‘s Dinner

The principal’s dinner and March birthday party were planned the day after the official exams. The principal surprised everyone with an ice cream buffet. With over ten different types of colorful and bright ice cream toppings, you felt an immediate sense of healing. There is nothing that a big meal with ice cream can’t cure.

In addition, a nine-day spring break follows. That is also thoughtful planning from the principal. Spring break is a deserving reward and a necessary physical and mental relaxation for the students. A provincial exam for graduation is truly “stressful,” but the principal’s careful planning and the teachers’ collaboration quietly transformed the time of the past half-month into a loving experience.

Have a wonderful spring break, and return energized!
