“What does it feel like to make your own game?” This was probably a question on many students’ minds before Ms. Sue’s Arts and Social Media class began. We’re used to swiping our fingers across screens, leveling up, socializing, and exploring in virtual worlds designed by others, but few students have ever tried becoming the “creators” of an online game. This media arts course gave students a glimpse into the mysteries of game development, unlocking a wonderful journey from concept to creation.

Ms. Sue didn’t start by explaining complex production techniques. Instead, she used “art + social interaction” as an entry point, breaking down classic online game cases to help students understand that the birth of online games is never just about the accumulation of individual technologies, but a perfect integration of artistic design, logical thinking, and social needs. Every part is filled with creativity and thought, which aligns perfectly with the core of the course: making art participatory and creative through social media-related platforms.
The most anticipated part of the course was the hands-on group activity of creating a simple online game. From discussing the game theme, to deciding on a direction, to dividing tasks and collaborating, and finally to successfully developing the game—every step was filled with the students’ focus and enthusiasm. Everyone played their part and cooperated with one another. Seeing the characters they designed move through the scenes and complete challenges according to the rules they set brought a sense of achievement that no gaming experience could ever replace.

Although the course has come to an end, the journey of learning never stops. This course experience not only allowed students to feel the charm of blending art and social interaction but also planted a seed of creativity in their hearts. May the students always carry forward this passion and courage, daring to create and take action, unlocking their own brilliance in even more fields.
