This November, in the midst of preparations for mid-term exams, students at ZHangjiagang campus prepared to part in the Waterloo Mathematics Competition in tandem. The Waterloo Mathematics Competitions covers students from grades 7 to 12. The competition is also known as the Canadian Senior Mathematics Contest, and is the official mathematics competition of Canada. It has been held by the Canadian Centre for Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) in the Mathematics Department of Waterloo University since 1963. With a history of 57 years at Waterloo, it is often referred to as the Waterloo Mathematics Competition.
The University of Waterloo, founded in 1957, has been ranked first and second overall for five consecutive years by Canada’s most prestigious education magazine- Maclean’s. The University is home to Canada preeminent School of Mathematics, which is the largest in North America and the world. Given Waterloo’s excellent reputation and tradition in the field of mathematics, as well as the rigorous and professional standards of the Euclid Mathematics Competition, the results of the competition are widely recognized in Canadian and American universities. Therefore, the competition is also known as Canada’s “mathematical TOEFL “.
The competition features a wide variety of competitions for students of all ages. Having a relatively large influence in Canadian colleges and universities, especially the results of the Euclid competition. Some of the competition questions are based on testing students’ analytical and logical thinking skills. The top 25% of international students ranked globally will receive a Certificate of Distinction. The student with the highest score among the participating schools will receive a medal as school champion. Every participant will receive a certificate of participation.
